Mr Vidya Sagar Rao an advocate, by profession retired as Director of Prosecutions in the combined state of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. Having a rich and wide legal experience to his credit; conducted efficiently various complex and complicated criminal cases on behalf of prestigious agencies like Anti Corruption Bureau (A.P.) and intelligence Bureau (A.P.). He received commendations from the departments and the Government for his services.
Born in Karimnagar District, Vidya Sagar Rao completed his B.Sc. (LLB) and LLM from Osmania University and carries 31 years of experience in legal and administrative affairs. He joined in prosecution department as Assistant Police Prosecuting Officer in 1983 in Huzurabad JMFC court. He served as Public Prosecutor in various courts in the combined state of Andhra Pradesh. He represented the state Intelligence Bureau before the Prakash Singh commission.
While serving as Director of Prosecutions, he initiated various reforms in the department to enhance transparency and efficiency. As Director of Prosecutions (FAC), pursued with Finance Department to utilize the 13th Finance Commission funds, which were allocated exclusively to impart refresher course training programmes and succeeded in getting approval of the Government to provide legal-e- library and laptops to all cadre prosecutors working in the state of A.P. Due to the above measures the prosecutors were well equipped and empowered to effectively conduct the cases. There by prosecutors were made accountable in discharging their duties and that facilitated transparency and accountability in the Organization. In his capacity as Director of Prosecutions Mr. Vidya Sagar Rao was nominated as one of the members in designing course module for trainers for Training Programme on human trafficking. He was one of the resource person in imparting training programmes for southern states prosecutors organized by the Union Home Ministry in A.P. Police Academy, Hyderabad. He was one of the member in designing training module to the U.P. cadre prosecuting officers, conducted by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCA).
Mr. Rao maintained Integrity and honesty and retired as the head of the Department, as he was the first cadre prosecutor officer promoted on merit basis to the Director of Prosecutions and retired with an unblamish record in the most complicated field of legal affairs. As a man of simplicity he is well known to the prosecution department for his integrity and honesty. His aim is to serve the youth of the new state of Telangana and to be a part of its vision, progressive development and prosperity in all the fields.
